Stone Buddha ~ Protection

The pictured carved stone Buddha statue was hand crafted from a colorful type of Himalayan stone by artisans in India. The carving is done "cave style" with only the front side carved and the rest left as natural rock. The Buddha's gesture is the abhaya mudra, the traditional Indian gesture of appeasement. The details and craftsmanship of this carving are even more beautiful than the photos can show. This particular statue does not stand on its own, it needs a slight lift in the back, in the photos below a quarter is used to make it stand properly.
